Morrisville Samp Army justified their top two league stage finish by handing a 79-run defeat to Team Abu Dhabi in a third-place playoff. The debutants won every aspect of the game, including the toss, and finished their maiden season on a high after losing out to New York Strikers and the Deccan Gladiators in the qualifiers.

Andries Gous powers Samp Army to third position in maiden season

Andries Gous clubbed a six-laden 68 off just 33 balls to boost Morrisville Samp Army’s total to 127-2 off their 10 overs. Captain Moeen Ali struck a 9-ball 23 at the top before Karim Janat dispatched three sixes in his 16-ball 27* in the death overs.

The Samp Army bowlers later brought their A game in the second innings, and skittled out Team Abu Dhabi inside nine overs of their run-chase.

All-rounders Bas de Leede and Kashif Daud claimed three wickets each in their two-over spells, with Akif Raza and Obus Pienaar also extending their supporting roles with the ball. Only three of Team Abu Dhabi batters barely reached the double digits, as 48 was all they could manage in their response.

The 79-run win also handed the Morrisville Samp Army a third spot in this year’s Abu Dhabi T10 season.
