The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended the IPL 2025 season by a week back on May 9 in the light of India’s escalating border tensions with geo-political rivals Pakistan. The announcement was made a day after Punjab Kings’ home fixture against Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was abandoned midway citing security concerns.
Moreover, several reports confirmed that spectators present at the venue even heard loud booms above the stadium, at a time when Pakistan’s military was launching air-strikes on several northern regions of India.
Alyssa Healy recalls bomb scare in Dharamsala
Australian women’s captain Alyssa Healy, who attended the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala for Delhi Capitals’ away fixture, revealed that she heard loud explosions near the team hotel just a few hours before the match. Addressing what was initially perceived as a possible bomb scare in a recent podcast, Healy laughingly admitted that one of her colleagues later clarified it were just fireworks being set off in a nearby village.
“Some peanut down in the village decides that it’s a great idea to set off some fireworks in the middle of the day.”
Alyssa Healy was spotted attending a couple of Delhi Capitals match this IPL 2025 season to support her husband, legendary Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc.
Nonetheless, the match still ended up being called off after just 10.1 overs worth of action during the Punjab Kings innings upfront.
The IPL 2025 season is now set to resume on Saturday, May 17 with a match between RCB and defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bengaluru. The abandoned Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match will restart from ball one, as it has been rescheduled to May 24 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
