The Pakistan National T20 Cup 2022 continued on September 5 with two matches at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Here is look at the highlights from each of the two fixtures.

Southern Punjab vs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s T20 clash with Southern Punjab was reduced to a five-over affair after heavy downpour at Rawalpindi.

Off the back of cameos from their top three, the Southern Punjab charted 41-4 from their five overs. Mohammad Imran and Imran Khan snared a wicket each while two batters fell to run-outs.

In response, Pakhtunkhwa chased down the total with three balls to spare, despite featuring only one batter in the double digits. Notably, the Southern Punjab bowlers conceded seven wides in a five-over run-chase, which amounted to joint second-highest contributor in the second half of the match.

Brief scores:

Southern Punjab: 41-4 (5)

Zain Abbas 14 (8), Mohammad Ilyas 13* (9)
Imran Khan 1-12, Mohammad Imran 1-13

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 44-3 (4.3)

Aamer Azmat 14* (10), Adil Amin 7* (4)
Mohammad Ilyas 2-14, Sameen Gul 1-15

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa won by 7 wickets

Balochistan vs Northern

A half-century by Haseebullah Khan and handy contributions from Asad Shafiq, Shan Masood and Haris Sohail boosted Balochistan’s total to an intimidating 181 off their 20 overs.

Northern’s seasoned campaigner and Pakistan international Sohail Tanvir, who picked a wicket in the opening innings, sparked a rebellious knock in the challenging run-chase. In an innings equal part street-smart and brutal, the left-hander started patiently before unleashing a sequence of three boundaries and six maximums.

Unfortunately for the Northern side, they still fell short of their target by 19 runs. Balochistan pacer Hussain Talat led his side to victory by keeping the run-flow in check, all while picking up three wickets in the high-scoring afternoon game.

Brief scores:

Balochistan: 181-3 (20)

Haseebullah Khan 52 (44), Shan Masood 45* (29)
Sohail Tanvir 1-32, Aamer Jamal 1-33

Northern: 162-7 (20)

Sohail Tanvir 74* (42), Aamer Jamal 35 (21)
Hussain Talat 3-17, Khurram Shahzad 2-28

Balochistan won by 19 runs
