Fake news from Indian media outlets have been the talk of the town from the last few years. It is prevalent, not only in the cricket arena, but in different spheres of Indian society. Mohammed Shami is one Indian cricketer who has openly criticised fake news, and on Tuesday, May 13, he slammed a website called Oneindia for a fake news of his retirement.
Mohammed Shami Shuts Down His Retirement Rumours
Mohammed Shami expressed his anger through an Instagram story where he posted a screenshot of the article and wrote some unkind words for the outlet and the writer. The article mentioned that Mohammed Shami might retire after Rohit and Kohli's decision to leave the Test format and claimed that a report has stated it.
The Indian pacer in his Instagram post wrote, " Very well done maharaj apna job K din bhi gin lo kitna adieu hai. Badme dekh Le hamara. Ap jaise ne satyiyanash kar diya future ka. Kabi to acha bol liya kare. Aaj ka sabse kharab story sorry."
Thus, the 34-year-old made it clear that he has no plans of retiring from the format, contrary to the speculations in media. Mohammed Shami last played a Test match for India in June 2023, and was injured for over a year after the World Cup in the same year. He is now fit though, and did decently for India in the victorious campaign of 2025 Champions Trophy.
However, the pacer struggled in IPL, bagging just six wickets in the nine matches. Thus, with the new cycle approaching, it would be interesting to see what decision selectors take on Mohammed Shami. The pacer's experience though could be critical for India in England as he has played 15 Test matches in the country, and has 44 wickets to his name.
