Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has reckoned that Chennai Super Kings' explosive all-rounder, Shivam Dube has hit the best sixes in the ongoing IPL 2023 and has also batted for his inclusion in the Indian T20I setup courtesy of his exploits in the tournament.

In the ongoing competition, Dube has amassed 363 runs in 13 innings, with an impressive 254 runs coming in the middle overs (7-15) at a striking rate of 155. However, what sets Dube apart is his ability to clear the boundaries, particularly in the middle overs.

Throughout these crucial overs, he has smashed 22 sixes, the highest tally among Indian batsmen with a remarkable rate of one six every 7.4 deliveries, surpassing his compatriots (minimum 120 balls faced).

Overall, Dube has unleashed 30 sixes this season, placing him joint-second alongside Glenn Maxwell. Impressively, he has dispatched these sixes every 7.7 balls faced, showcasing his proficiency in this aspect of the game, second only to Maxwell (7 balls) among Indian batters (minimum 120 balls faced).

Responding to Hindustan Times’ question during an interaction on Jio Cinemas, Chopra endorsed Dube's return to the Indian team based on his batting prowess alone.

The former cricketer praised the southpaw’s batting prowess, stating that he found it impressive and believed that if India aimed to adopt a specific style of T20 cricket, Dube's inclusion was crucial due to his exceptional ability to hit sixes.

"It's a very good name to be honest. I liked the way he batted. If India look to play that brand of T20 cricket then Shivam Dube should be there because he is hitting sixes. He is perhaps hitting the best sixes in the tournament so far,” said Chopra.

It is pertinent to mention that Dube has represented India in 14 white-ball matches between 2019 and 2020, when he was elected as a backup for Hardik Pandya. However, he failed to make a lasting impression, resulting in his subsequent exclusion from the national reckoning.

As the cricketing fraternity becomes enamoured with the Next Gen sensations, it is crucial not to overlook the remarkable resurgence of the CSK all-rounder, whose explosive batting and six-hitting prowess have left even the cricketing community in awe.
