In a massive development, it has been understood that talismanic batter Virat Kohli might play Delhi's Vijay Hazare Trophy encounters in his IPL home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. While the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) has confirmed Kohli's participation in the tournament, the Chinnaswamy stadium has received the Karnataka government's clearance to host competitive matches for the first time after the infamous stampede incident following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's historic IPL 2025 triumph.

As revealed by ESPNCricinfo, Venkatesh Prasad, the newly elected chief of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, recently received the green signal from the concerned authorities, including chief minister Siddharamaiah and deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar, to conduct competitive games at the iconic Indian venue. 

After the horrific stampede incident took the lives of eleven innocent people, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium faced scrutiny over security arrangements, with a long-term ban threatening the venue's IPL hosting rights. 

However, as the KSCA decision-makers have received the Karnataka government's approval, Delhi's Vijay Hazare Trophy matches could be shifted from Alur to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. As a result, Virat Kohli, India's most legendary modern-day cricketing figure, could be seen making his return to the famed domestic tournament at his RCB home venue. 

Kohli recently made it into Delhi's probables for the Vijay Hazare Trophy alongside swashbuckling keeper-batter Rishabh Pant. The duo's addition definitely boosts the Delhi squad, as they aim to break their title jinx in the tournament. 

The legendary Indian batter showcased remarkable form in the ODI series against South Africa, piling up 302 runs at an average of more than 100. Despite his prolific touch, the BCCI wants Kohli to feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in order to keep himself match-fit, as India continue to prepare for the 2027 World Cup edition. 

Barring Kohli, his long-term partner-in-crime, Rohit Sharma, could also represent his state side, Mumbai, in the tournament, while Pant is expected to play a crucial role for Delhi.
