The Indian Premier League (IPL) has reportedly removed the names of nine players who were set to undergo the hammer in the upcoming player auctions. This includes six Indian players and three capped overseas players. The reason for removing their names remains unknown.

IPL had added the names of these players on the 9th of December after the original list of 350 players was submitted, taking the total to 359. However, as revealed by NDTV News18, these names weren't visible on the modified list on December 13.

The Indians on the list of nine players were Mani Sankar, Mura Singh, Chama Milind, K.L. Shrijith, Swastik Chikara, Rahul Raj Namala, and Virat Singh, all of whom had a base price of ₹30 lakh. The overseas players were Malaysia all-rounder Virandeep Singh, with a base price of ₹30 lakh; Africa’s Eathan Bosch; and Australia’s Chris Green, with a base price of ₹75 lakh.

Swastik Chikara gained popularity for being part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru last season, despite not getting any game time. Mura Singh, a player from Tripura, is known for his power-hitting abilities, while Virat Singh from Jharkhand has represented Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past.

IPL auction to take place in Abu Dhabi

In the meantime, the player auction for the upcoming season will take place on the 16th of December, and Abu Dhabi will host the event. Over 1000 players had initially registered for the auction, but 350 names were shortlisted to go under the hammer based on the interest from all 10 franchisees.

The Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings, with ₹64.3 crores and ₹43.4 crores, respectively, have the highest remaining purse.

As for the players removed from the auction list, the IPL has neither clarified the reason behind it nor given any official statement about the situation.
