Neser’s second innings fifer pushed the Aussies to register a thrilling victory at the Gabba. Riding high on that momentum, the star all-rounder is now ready to shine on enemy turf as he signs an exciting County stint with Hampshire.
Neser to step onto the County stage with Hampshire
After a commanding triumph in Perth, Australia carried the momentum into the Gabba Test and dismantled England once again, with Michael Neser emerging as one of the chief architects of the win. Starting the match, picking up only one wicket in the first innings, his outstanding fifer shattered the English batting lineup. Before the upcoming County Championship, Hampshire has signed the Aussie superstar, adding a massive boost to their squad. Neser is set to play the first six County matches for the side. In the last season, he represented Hampshire and enjoyed some successful outings in their jersey.
Earlier, he represented Glamorgan, where he made his mark on English soil with impactful performances. Alongside Michael Neser, Hampshire are set to add more Australian flair by securing Jake Lehmann on a two-year deal. After the Sheffield Shield season, Lehmann is all set for his third County stint, as he represented Yorkshire and Lancashire early on.
As the Aussie stars are set to grace the big stage, Hampshire has welcomed them with open arms. Reflecting on their arrival, Director of Cricket Giles White believes their presence will have a massive impact and add real firepower to the squad.
“In Michael Neser and Jake Lehmann, we have two players who have the ability to make a significant impact. Michael brings valuable runs alongside his quality with the ball – he will partner (veteran South African) Kyle Abbott as one of our overseas players,” he said.
Adding a twist in the new signing, Jake has been registered as a local player because of his UK success. Right now, the exceptional form. He arrives in exceptional form, fresh off a stunning century against Tasmania in the ongoing Sheffield Shield season. Those Aussie stars will be massive weapons for the Hampshire side.
