Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Saturday, December 13.

Rohit Sharma set to play Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26: Report

Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma is reportedly set to play the upcoming 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy season. The legendary Indian opener is slated to play a handful of matches for the Mumbai cricket team. Rohit Sharma recently toured Australia and faced South Africa at home in a three-match ODI series. Since the cricketer is already retired from T20Is and Tests for Team India, the right-handed batter is currently focusing only on ODIs with one eye on the 2027 ICC World Cup.

Usman Khawaja declares himself fit and ready for third Ashes Test

Senior Australian opening batter Usman Khawaja has declared himself 100 percent fit and ready to play the upcoming third Test of the 2025-26 Ashes series at the Adelaide Oval. The left-hander missed the second Test of the series at the Gabba in Brisbane earlier this month as he failed to attain full recovery from the back spasm he sustained in Perth.

As of now, it remains to be seen if the Australian selectors and the team management will consider Usman Khawaja for his return to the playing XI. The third match of the series will be played between December 17 and December 21.

Lizelle Lee, Linsey Smith script Hobart Hurricanes’ WBBL 2025 win

Hobart Hurricanes pounded Perth Scorchers Women to win the 2025 WBBL title in Hobart. After Linsey Smith and Heather Graham picked up two wickets apiece to restrict Scorchers to 137-5, Hobart Hurricanes opener Lizelle Lee smeared 77* from just 44 balls. The Hurricanes ended up surpassing Scorchers’ total in just 15 overs with eight wickets to spare.

The outcome marked the first-ever WBBL title for the Hobart Hurricanes Women’s team as the franchise completed a rare Big Bash double after men’s 2024-25 win earlier this year.

PCB fumes as ICC ignore PAK captain from 2026 T20 World Cup promo

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly expressed its displeasure over the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding a promo material of the upcoming 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Set to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka in a couple of months, a promotional poster of the tournament signifying ticket sales excluded Pakistan national T20I captain Agha Salman.

The incident occurred in the backdrop of India’s severing geo-political ties with Pakistan, especially after PCB chief and ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi walked away with the 2025 Asia Cup trophy.

England’s Ashes tour hits new low after airport shuffle

The England cricket team recently took flight from Brisbane to fly to Adelaide for the upcoming third Test of the 2025-26 Ashes series. At the Brisbane airport, at a time when England players were walking through the terminal, an England security guard was spotted shoving an Australian cameraman, reportedly from the Channel 7 network.

The incident sparked a wave of criticism on social media, as it occurred at a time when the England team is trailing 0-2 in the five-match series.
