The rumours about Rohit Sharma’s future have been put to rest by the Hitman himself after solid outings in the ODIs against Australia and South Africa. Yet, before those impressive displays, fans were abuzz with rumours about whether he would feature in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.
As the Men in Blue are set to face New Zealand in an ODI series, ahead of that, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant are set to play the domestic 50-over tournament. Reports from Revsportz suggest that Rohit Sharma may soon follow suit, though official confirmation is still awaited.
Rohit Sharma set to light up the Vijay Hazare Trophy
After hanging up boots from the Test and the T20I format, the ODIs have been Rohit Sharma’s sole focus. Before stepping into the ODI series against Australia, there was a lot of buzz regarding his career, but he smashed those out of the park with exceptional performances and channeled the fiery energy even in the ODI series against South Africa.
With the 2027 ODI World Cup on the horizon, staying match-ready is key, and even Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have confirmed their participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Delhi. Rohit Sharma is set to follow the way as the report suggested that he is set to play, even though any official confirmation from his side is still on hold.
Speaking to RevSpotrz, a MCA source revealed that, “The squad will be picked on a match-to-match basis and we expect Rohit to play a few games, although we haven’t received any confirmation from him yet. But there’s time. The squad is likely to be picked next week, after the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. There are ODIs against New Zealand next month as well, so it will depend on his availability.”
Vijay Hazare Trophy becomes Hitman’s key to 2027 World Cup prep
Rohit Sharma’s global stardom began in Mumbai’s jersey, where fans first glimpsed his white-ball brilliance. Before stepping into the upcoming season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, his last participation in the domestic 50-over tournament came in 2018 when Mumbai faced Hyderabad in the semifinal clash.
After a stellar ODI series against Australia, Rohit may have missed a century in the recently ended ODI series against South Africa, but fans witnessed some Hitman magic. With the BCCI mandating domestic participation, Rohit has already taken the field for Mumbai in this season’s Ranji Trophy, keeping his form sharp.
With few ODIs lined up before the 2027 World Cup, the Vijay Hazare Trophy becomes a key stage for Rohit Sharma's preparations. Despite all the buzz, there is plenty of cricket left in Hitman as fans are waiting to see him waving his bat high in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
