In a significant development, there are reports that the ICC has finalised 10 players for the ODI player of the year award. The elusive list features Virat Kohli as the sole Indian with No.1 ODI batter Rohit Sharma failing to make the cut.

A report from Tanuj Singh mentioned that Virat Kohli, Matthew Breetzke, Joe Root, Shai Hope, Daryl Mitchell, Matt Henry, Adil Rashid, Sikandar Raza, Mitchell Santner, Jayden Seales are the 10 players who have made the final cut.

The elusive list features one Indian, one from South Africa, and three from New Zealand, the most from any country.

A recap of 2025 heroics from 10 nominees

If we look at how 2025 has went for the nominated players, then Virat Kohli has 651 runs in 13 innings, averaging 65.10, which includes three centuries and four fifty-plus scores.

Matthew Breetzke made his debut in 2025 and has played 12 matches, amassing 706 runs, averaging 64.18, including a century and six fifty-plus scores.

Joe Root, who stole the limelight for his Test heroics, has 800+ runs this year, which features three-centuries. Similarly, it has been a brilliant year for Daryl Mitchell and Shai Hope who have been among runs.

Among the bowlers, Matt Henry, Adil Rashid, and Jayden Seales have been the finest with 88 combined wickets. Notably, Henry is the leading wicket-taker in 2025 with 31 wickets 13 innings.

Why was Rohit Sharma excluded from the list?

This year has been special for Rohit Sharma as well as the right-handed batter proved his critics wrong and returned to peak fitness. However, the hitman has just 650 runs in 14 innings. He has had a great year but failed behind the pecking order and couldn't match the numbers that others produced.
