Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg has picked MS Dhoni over Ricky Ponting as the better captain in international cricket.

Hogg, who played a majority of his cricket in Ponting's captaincy, was asked to name captain between the two stalwarts of modern cricket. In reply, the chinaman bowler opined that both are at par with each other in terms of tactics and records.

However, he chose Dhoni, citing his incredible ability of dealing with team politics, which is deeply rooted in Indian cricket.

Here's what Hogg said

"Ricky Ponting had a wonderful team. MS Dhoni had a great team as well. For me, both did exceptionally well, both have got a fantastic record. You cannot separate them. I’d say that MS Dhoni probably had more politics to deal with in Indian cricket than what Ricky Ponting did. That probably puts Dhoni slightly in front of Ricky Ponting."

Dhoni retired with unmatchable legacy as Indian captain, leading the team to three ICC titles across formats. He is the only international captain to win all three major white-ball tournaments.

Despite biding adieu to international cricket, the legendary keeper-batter remains active in the Indian Premier League.
