Babar Azam is one of Pakistan's best batters in the last decade, but in the last few years, things have changed, and his form has dipped massively. Once touted as the best batter across formats by Virat Kohli, Babar was at the peak of his powers till August 2023, but since then, everything has gone downhill.

Two years without an international century, and Babar's average across formats has gone down. So much so that the talented batter was removed from the ODI side. Moreover, PCB dropped a shocker as they dropped Babar from their Asia Cup 2025 squad.

A lot has changed in two years. Here is what has transpired in Pakistan cricket since the time Babar scored his last international century.

Events that has occurred in Pakistan cricket since Babar's last ton

4 captains have changed

Ever since August 2023, Pakistan has changed four captains across formats. Babar was the captain when he last scored his century, which came against Nepal in the Asia Cup. He also led Pakistan in the World Cup 2023, but a few months before the T20 World Cup 2024, he was removed from the T20I leadership post, and Shaheen Afridi replaced him.

However, just after a solitary series against New Zealand, Shaheen was removed as well, and Babar was once again appointed the leader. In the T20 World Cup, Pakistan crashed out of the group stage, and Babar was once again removed from the post; and Agha Salman became the new T20I skipper.

Babar's ODI leadership was also snatched, and Mohammad Rizwan was appointed the new ODI captain.

3 coaches replaced

In 2024, Pakistan cricket went in the right direction when they appointed Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie as their head coaches for red-ball and white-ball cricket. Things looked for the Men in Green before disaster struck. Kirsten resigned from the post due to selection issues with Pakistan cricket, and a few months later, Gillespie followed his footsteps, and he, too, left his coaching post.

After the duo left, PCB appointed Aaqib Javed as the interim coach, and after a couple of disastrous series, he, too, was replaced by Mike Hesson.

3 events, 3 group stage exits

Nothing has gone right for the Pakistan team since Babar's last century. They entered World Cup 2023 as one of the favourites, but the Babar-led side crashed in the group stage. Similarly, Pakistan once again had a disappointing World Cup in 2024. The Men in Green crashed out of the group stage in the T20 World Cup, and the trend continued in the Champions Trophy, as three group stage exits happened in a row.
