In a major development, India's premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has confirmed his readiness to participate in the upcoming Asia Cup in Dubai. A source within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that Bumrah communicated his availability directly to the national selectors recently.

The senior selection committee, led by former all-rounder Ajit Agarkar, is scheduled to convene on August 19 in Mumbai to finalise the 15-member squad for the T20 format tournament, set to run from September 9 to 28 in the UAE.

Source Confirms Jasprit Bumrah's Readiness

Bumrah, who played only 3 Tests in England, was unsure of joining the Asia Cup campaign for the team, given his workload concerns. Yet, a source, according to a report from The Indian Express, confirmed his availability.

“Bumrah has informed the selectors that he will be available for Asia Cup selection. The selection committee will meet and discuss it when they meet next week,” the source stated.

Bumrah Playing Asia Cup Was A Certainty?

Notably, Bumrah missed India's victory in the second Test at Edgbaston and played in the third and fourth Tests at Lord’s and Old Trafford. During the series, he claimed two five-wicket hauls and bowled 119.4 overs. It is believed that the 3 Test workload management is the reason Bumrah is set to play the Asia Cup 2025.

The Asia Cup, being a T20I tournament, is seen as conducive for Jasprit Bumrah's return, as it involves shorter bowling spells and allows the team management flexibility in selecting his matches. He will have a significant break between his last Test in England and the start of the Asia Cup. Bumrah's last T20I appearance was in the victorious 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa in Bridgetown, where he took 2 for 18.
