Middle-order batter Keegan Petersen is all set to miss South Africa's upcoming tour of Australia due to an injury. Petersen injured himself during last week's final of the CSA T20 Challenge while playing for the Dolphins.

The 29-year-old injured his hamstring while diving on the field in an attempt to stop the boundary against the Titans, which his team lost. As per IOL sport, Petersen's injury will take six to eight weeks to heal.

South Africa are due to travel to Australia next month for a three-match Test series starting December 17. Malibongew Maketa will be South Africa's new interim coach for this tour, who takes over after the resignation of Mark Boucher.

Petersen had earlier missed Africa's tour of New Zealand after contracting covid-19.

The No.3 batter made his mark on international cricket during their home series against India, where he ended as the leading run-getter in the 3-Test series, scoring 276 runs. Overall, in 10 Tests, the Paarl-born has scored 575 runs with four half-centuries.
