Defending T20 World Champions Australia were knocked out of the ongoing ICC T20 WC 2022 in the Super 12 stage. Despite being on seven points, Australia had an inferior net run-rate to England, courtesy of a massive 89-run loss against New Zealand in their tournament opener.

Apart from the loss, Australia's plans and team selection have baffled former players and experts alike, especially in a crucial tie against Afghanistan.

Former World Cup-winning player Shane Watson has questioned coach Andrew McDonald and selectors George Bailey and Tony Dodemaide over playing Kane Richardson ahead of Starc.

Richardson leaked 48 runs in his spell, picking up a solitary wicket.

"Those things send shockwaves through a team, and unfortunately in a big game where the Aussies had to step up and dominate, they weren't able to do it.

There are a lot of questions that need to be answered by the coaches and the selection staff to be able to right the wrongs."

Speaking to The WA, Watson further stated that the team management going ahead needs to look at their own performances as well with the ICC World Cup 2023 in sight.
