Bangladesh women’s fast bowler Jahanara Alam has submitted a written statement to the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) inquiry committee. Earlier, the 32-year-old made shocking allegations against a former selector of inappropriately approaching her during the 2022 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

Jahanara Alam submitted her statement on December 4 earlier this month after having sought additional time to respond. While the BCB instructed the committee to submit their findings within 15 days, Jahanara’s request prompted the board to grant an extension up until December 20.

Jahanara Alam’s sexual harassment claims take a fresh course

As per a press release, the legal team of Bangladesh cricketer Jahanara Alam has submitted her statement to the BCB inquiry committee. The five-member inquiry committee also confirmed the development to The Daily Star.

The press release added that the statement will not be made public owing to the “sensitive and confidential nature of the allegations”.

Last month, Jahanara Alam made serious sexual harassment allegations against former Bangladesh women’s team manager and selector Manjurul Islam and against late Towhid Mahmud, former member of women’s team department.

On her YouTube channel, she said that the two sexually harassed her and made indecent approaches. Jahanara added that she also provided a detailed account of the alleged harassment to BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury back in 2022 itself. However, the cricketer claimed that the board took no steps against the accused at the time.

As of now, Jahanara Alam is currently living in Australia and is on a break from international cricket citing mental health reasons. The 32-year-old last represented the Bangladesh women’s team in December last year during Bangladesh’s home T20I series against the visiting Irish women in Sylhet. To date, Jahanara Alam has played 135 international matches for Bangladesh.
