In a significant development, Pretoria Capitals have appointed South Africa’s left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj as their captain for the upcoming SA20 Season 4. It is important to note that Maharaj led the Durban Super Giants last season and will replace former PBKS player Rilee Rossouw as skipper in the upcoming season.

Talking about the current season, Rossouw has joined Joburg Super Kings. Maharaj, on the other hand, was acquired by the Capitals. Keshav Maharaj has played 33 matches in SA20 for Durban Super Giants and has bagged 27 wickets at an economy of 7.30. Last year, he played 10 matches and took eight wickets at an economy rate of 6.91.

His leadership and experience in international cricket are expected to bring balance and direction to the Capitals squad.

On Maharaj’s appointment, the Capitals said -

"One of South Africa’s most experienced and respected leaders, Maharaj brings a wealth of international pedigree across formats, along with a proven track record of guiding teams with composure, clarity and intent.

"Having captained South Africa in white-ball cricket and served as a senior figure within the national setup for several years, Maharaj’s leadership experience, tactical understanding and consistency make him an invaluable addition in this role. His presence strengthens the balance and direction of the Pretoria Capitals squad as the team heads into the new season,” said the franchise in a release.

It is important to note that Pretoria Capitals have also revamped their coaching staff. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly will take charge as head coach, with former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock joining as assistant coach.

For the SA20 auction, Capitals entered with the largest purse of R32.5 million. In the auction, Pretoria Capitals made a massive move and acquired Dewald Brevis along with several notable names Lungi Ngidi, Craig Overton, Connor Esterhuizen, Lizaad Williams and Bryce Parsons.

Pre-signed players include Sherfane Rutherford and Will Jacks, with Andre Russell joining as a wild card pick.

The new SA20 season begins on December 26 with MI Cape Town taking on Durban Super Giants. Pretoria Capitals will open their campaign the next day against Joburg Super Kings.
