On this day, twelve years ago, India secured a comprehensive Test victory over Australia by seven wickets in Bengaluru. Interestingly, this fixture marked Sachin Tendulkar's last double ton, and Cheteshwar Pujara's debut in the longest format.

India gain a slight edge in first innings

Batting first, the Aussie duo Shane Watson (57) and Simon Katich (43) provided a good start to the team. Then, captain Ricky Ponting (77) was imperious to further steer the visitors against talented bowling unit.

Then, the contributions from Marcus North (128) and Tim Paine (59) paved way for Australia to post 478 on the board. Harbhajan Singh was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets for India.

In response, India lost the wickets of Virender Sehwag (30) and Rahul Dravid (1) early. However, the duo of Murali Vijay and Tendulkar were impressive with their ability to put hosts on the front foot with their 308-runs partnership.

After Vijay (139) departed, Tendulkar continued his momentum to finish on 214 off 363 balls, comprising 22 fours and two sixes. In the end, India managed to score 495, and secured a 17-run lead.

Pujara leads the way for India

In the second innings, Australia were bundled out for 223, with Ponting emerging as the top contributor with 72 runs, and set a target of 207.

Then, Vijay was again sublime with his timing against the new ball. Pujara, being promoted to number three, exuded confidence, while charging against spinners. He slammed 72 off 89, while Tendulkar remained unbeaten on 53* to chase down the score in 45 overs.
