Asif Ali and Fareed Ahmad have been imposed a fine of 25% of their match fees following their altercation in their recent Asia Cup 2022 match. The two cricketers were involved in a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the finishing stages of Pakistan’s thrilling affair against Afghanistan at Sharjah.

Afghan speedster Ahmad, after dismissing Pakistan’s Asif Ali in the penultimate over of the match, was seen celebrating in close proximity to the batter. Ali reacted by shoving the bowler and a brief altercation ensued between the two players.

Both Ahmad and Ali admitted their offence to match referee Andy Pycroft, who imposed the sanctions on them. The ICC released a verdict over the matter, saying:

“Asif breached Article 2.6 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an International Match" while Fareed was found to have breached Article 2.1.12, which relates to "inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator) during an International Match.”

Pakistan eventually won the contest in contention after bowler Naseem Shah struck two match-winning sixes in the final over of the contest. The win granted them an access to the final of the Asia Cup 2022, where they will meet an insurgent Sri Lankan team on September 11.
