Jon Wells joins Melbourne Renegades ahead of BBL 12

Melbourne Renegades have drafted experienced Jon Wells into their squad on a two-year deal ahead of the upcoming Big Bash League season.

With more than 2500 runs at an average of around 35 and a strike rate of 122.78, Wells is the competition's fourth most prolific batter of all time. He is only behind Chris Lynn, Aaron Finch, and Glenn Maxwell.

The middle order batter started his career with Hobart Hurricanes in 2011 before moving to Adelaide Strikers in 2017.

Wells is the Renegades' second signing of the off-season after they secured the services of quick Tom Rogers from Hobart Hurricanes.

In his reaction, Wells said,

"It's something I'm really looking forward to and I'm very excited to officially be a Renegade. Sos (Shaun Marsh) is one I've played with previously and someone I'm looking forward to reuniting with and playing alongside again."

Renegades' general manager James Rosengarten welcomed Wells gleefully and said,

"We identified a need for a player with Jon's skill-set to bolster our middle order. He's a smart cricketer with a proven ability to adapt his game to whatever the team requires when he's out in the middle."
