With the threat of coronavirus a thing of the past, cricketing countries have started to announce their full-fledged domestic seasons. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) today revealed their upcoming 2022-2023 calendar for domestic competitions.

Plunket Shield, which commences in October, will be followed by the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield and other Ford trophy tournaments, which will go on until March 2023.

Defending Plunket Shield Champions Auckland will go up against the Otago Sparks on October 18 and finishes on March 24, 2023.

The Ford Trophy will begin on November 22 and witness an elimination final on February 17. Auckland are reining champions here as well.

Sparks, winners of the Johnstone Shield last year, will begin their title defense on November 19, with the final scheduled for March 4, 2023.

Speaking on the upcoming domestic calendar, NZC's GM of cricket operations Catherine Campbell said,

"The formats and playing conditions for all competitions will largely revert to those employed before last season, although the provision to allow full substitutes for players who test positive to Covid-19 will remain,"

"We're all looking forward to a full season of domestic cricket being played across the country, from Whangarei in the north to Queenstown and Dunedin in the south,"

"With the home international fixtures and the Dream11 Super Smash added, Kiwi cricket fans will have plenty to keep them interested, from the start of October to early April 2023."

The Blackcaps are scheduled to host Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, England, and Sri Lanka between October and March 2023 as well.
