The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign has been disappointing for Delhi Capitals, having won just four out of their 11 matches played so far.

With their recent 27-run defeat to Chennai Super Kings, their chances of making it to the playoffs seem bleak, leaving them on the brink of elimination.

One of the main reasons for their lacklustre performance this season is the team's failure to make the most of their available resources.

Furthermore, the leadership of David Warner has been abysmal, and the team has struggled to find its rhythm as a unit on the field.

They took far too long to settle on their best starting lineup this season, ultimately paying the price for their indecisiveness.

Another notable issue has been their failure to make the most of Axar Patel's stunning form, as the team management has consistently held him back, even in games where his contribution could have made all the difference.

Axar Patel's under-utilization goes beyond his batting position. In some games, he has not been allowed to bowl his full quota of overs, despite his excellent performances.

Though he bowled his complete quota of all four overs in the last match against Chennai Super Kings but it was only after he picked up a wicket in his first delivery of his first over.

Speaking in the post-match conference, here's what Axar Patel said:

“Glad that I got a wicket off my first ball, otherwise I might not have bowled all 4 overs.”

This statement has gone viral on social media, with fans expressing their disappointment with David Warner's captaincy and the team management's handling of the star all-rounder.

Despite being under-utilized by Delhi Capitals, Axar Patel has still managed to score 267 runs in 11 appearances at a strike rate of 138. He has also contributed with the ball, taking nine wickets in 10 matches at a brilliant economy rate of 6.81.

What’s next for the Delhi Capitals?

The chances of Delhi Capitals making it to the playoffs are all but over after their poor performance in the tournament, which was further compounded by their recent defeat to Chennai Super Kings.

With just three matches remaining, even a clean sweep may not be enough for them to qualify for the playoffs, given their poor form and the need to depend on other games’ results.
