In a significant development, the Karnataka state government has allowed matches to be held at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, but with a condition. Since the 2025 IPL final, the Chinnaswamy has not hosted a solitary game because of the unfortunate stampede on June 4 that killed 11.
RCB's inaugural IPL win turned tragic after 11 civilians lost their lives because of poor management at Chinnaswamy Stadium, which eventually led the government to ban hosting games at the iconic venue in Bengaluru.
Chinnaswamy Stadium allowed to host games
However, in the latest events, after six months, the Karnataka Government's deputy CM met the newly elected KCA president, Venkatesh Prasad, and allowed the Karnataka Cricket Association to host international and IPL games at Chinnaswamy Stadium, subject to proper crowd management.
As reported by The Times of India, the state government has asked KCA to follow the safety and security guidelines issued by the Justice John Michael Cunha Commission, which probed the investigation following the unfortunate stampede.
What did the Justice John Michael Cunha Commission recommend?
The Commission, which probed the June 4 stampede outside the stadium that killed 11 people during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebration, had reportedly concluded that the design and structure of Chinnaswamy Stadium were "unsuitable and unsafe" for mass gatherings.
It recommended major upgrades, including additional entry/exit gates, purpose-built queuing and circulation zones isolated from public roads, internationally compliant emergency evacuation plans, and adequate parking.
RCB fans rejoice in joy
In the past six months, Chinnaswamy Stadium missed out on several big opportunities, such as the 2025 Women's World Cup and the ongoing SMAT, which is happening outside Bengaluru.
Further, there were reports that RCB are looking for a new stadium for IPL 2026, but with the report that Chinnaswamy Stadium is allowed to host games, it is a major boost for the defending champions.
