'That Was Clearly..', Tom Moody Slams Dinesh Karthik Following His Lucky Escape vs DC

In the 50th fixture of the IPL 2023 between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals, Indian keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik committed a heinous act of trying to safeguard his wicket illegitimately by blocking a throw from the Delhi Capitals pacer Mukesh Kumar directed at the non-striker's stumps.

In the end, Delhi Capitals triumphed over Royal Challengers Bangalore by registering a crushing victory thanks to the contribution of Phil Salt, who drove Capitals to an emphatic victory with 20 balls to spare.

Following the conclusion of the game, Karthik's mischievous act did not go unnoticed. The incident took place during the second ball of the 19th over. RCB were looking to up the ante, and Lormor was looking well-poised to power his side to a respectable total.

Mukesh Kumar nailed an immaculate yorker on off stump line, which was hit straight back to him. At that point, Karthik sensed an opportunity for a quick run and was nearly three-fourth down the pitch before he was sent back by Lomror.

Realizing that he was in a spot of bother, Karthik instantly changed his path whilst sprinting to reach his end without a probable cause and, in the process, potentially blocked a run-out attempt from the bowler.

It was a clear case of obstructing the field, but much to everyone's surprise, DC did not go for the appeal, and the third umpire was not called upon for closer inspection.

However, this incident did not have a tremendous bearing on the outcome of the game as Karthik was dismissed five balls later and could barely scavenge 11 runs off nine balls in his innings.

Former SRH coach Tom Moody took to his twitter account to call out the RCB batter for his obnoxious act.

He wrote,

"Sorry DK that was clearly “obstructing the field".

He did not hold back his emotions and alleged that the batter changed his line while trying to retreat to his crease in anticipation of a throw at his end.

He, along with other cricketing experts, was of the opinion that Karthik got away with a lucky escape as he was not penalized for "obstructing the field".
