IND vs NZ, 2nd T20I: Latest Updates, Tweets, Videos and More

image-ldhn9gx9India vs New Zealand (Source: AP Newsroom) Keep Refreshing for latest updates...

10:51 PM IST | Probuddha: So that is it from OneCricket's live blog of the second T20I between New Zealand and India. India have won a low-scoring thriller at Lucknow and have drawn level in the series. The action will now shift to Ahmedabad for the decider of the series. This is Probuddha Bhattacharjee signing off on behalf of Arijit Kundu and Shakir Jamil. GOOD NIGHT and BYE!!! KEEP FOLLOWING OneCricket for more exclusive contents from the Cricketing World.

Player of the Match: Suryakumar Yadav

10:35 PM IST | Akshay Bhide: What a contest we just witnessed in Lucknow. The spinners dominated yet another clash in this series and we saw a low-scoring thriller tonight. The game went down to the wire and India held their nerves to beat New Zealand by six wickets to keep the series alive. We head to Ahmedabad now for the decider on Wednesday.

Chasing 100 was going to be a tricky task on this spin-friendly track. Shubman Gill was looking good at the top of the order but was dismissed by Michael Bracewell on 11 in the fourth over. Rahul Tripathi joined Ishan Kishan and both led the recovery work for the hosts. Run scoring wasn’t easy and Kishan’s struggles came to an end when he was run out on 19 off 32 balls.

India were 49/2 after 10 overs and lost Tripathi in the next over on 13. Washington Sundar was promoted up the order. He along with Suryakumar Yadav put 20 between them before a terrible mix-up resulted in Sundar’s downfall. The game went down to the wire and with six required from the last over, Surya (26*) and Hardik Pandya (15*) held their nerves to take their side across the line with two balls to spare. The New Zealand bowlers bowled well and tried hard but failed to defend the modest total.

Earlier, New Zealand decided to bat first. They had a steady start to their innings and scored 33 in the powerplay but lost both their openers. Mark Chapman tried to steady the ship but lacked support from the other end as the Indian spinners bowled beautifully in the middle phase. The Kiwi batters failed to get going as they were reeling at 60/5 in the 13th over.

Michael Bracewell along with Mithell Santner tried to build the partnership but the former fell in the 17th over while trying to up the ante. Santner remained unbeaten on 19 as New Zealand finished their innings on 99/8. The Indian bowlers were fantastic and never allowed the New Zealand batters to get away. Each of the bowlers, barring Shivam Mavi picked up at least a wicket as they completed a brilliant display with the ball.

Some Fun Twitter Reactions after the match:

Manish Bishnoi:This is 1st ever T20I match in India, when both teams Smashed 0 Sixes.

Shakir: The Kiwis made a match out of 99!! Can you believe it. Wowwww!! It was indeed a low-scoring thriller. This looked like a one-way traffic for the most part but to fight like the way the Blackcaps did was commendable. India with the help of Surya-Hardik get to the finishing line but only JUST!! This one would have stung if we had ended on the other side.....

19.5: FOURRRRR!!!!! SURYAKUMAR YADAV FINISHES THINGS OFF IN STYLE!!!!!! Back of a length ball on off stump. SKY lofts it over mid-off and the ball runs away to the fence. India win the match by 6 wickets with one ball remaining in the match. They have drawn level in the series.

19.4: THIS IS GETTING VERY CLOSE. A run out chance goes begging. Single taken. 3 runs off 2 balls. This is a match from another planet.

19.3: OHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! DROPPPEDDDDD!!!!!!! Back of a length ball on off stump. Surya plays it back to the bowler in the air. But Tickner fails to hold on and a single is taken. 3 balls left 4 to win!!!!

19.2: DOT!!!!!! OMG!!!!! Back of a length ball on off stump. Surya looks to carve it towards the third man region but misses. 5 off 4!!!! The match is on the knife's edge.

19.1: Back of a length ball outside off stump. Hardik gets an outside edge to fine third man for a single. 5 off 5 left!!!

Arijit: This is where New Zealand would be missing the experience of Boult or Southee.

Probuddha: Blair Tickner is your answer Shakir.

Shakir: Who is Santner going towards for the final over!?

10:21 PM IST | Probuddha: FOUR!!!!!! That was a much needed boundary here by the skipper. That releases the pressure a lot.

11 runs 8 balls.... Things are getting tensed here.

Shakir: What is happening here!! This is not what the Indian fans would have thought...

Arijit: It is vivid that New Zealand have gone with experience over here. But I believe a boundary is on the cards for India. Extra pace might work in favour of India.

Probuddha: Interesting!!!! Lockie Ferguson into the attack. What are your thoughts Arijit??!!

Probuddha: Interesting thought Ajay!!! But experimenting in international matches might not turn out to be a good idea.

Ajay: Is this a preparation for Border-Gavaskar Trophy if we go with the pitch behaviour 🥶

Shakir: Indians fans will be wondering that HOW DID WE GET HERE!! 14 off 14 required. This can turn interesting if a wicket or two falls here

Arijit: 18 runs are required off the last three overs now. Things have come down to the final stage.

There's something special that Shafali Verma said after winning the U-19 Women's World Cup.

Arijit: Second with you Shakir.  We also don't get to see the batters using the crease well against spin. Or shimming down the ground to shorten the pitch of the ball.

Shakir: I have an interesting question for you guys... Indian batting against quality spin. I don't think we talk about it enough. India really struggle on challenging tracks. We are no more the quality spin batting side we used to be! What do you guys think?

Arijit: Is there a twist in the tale?

10:01 PM IST | Probuddha: WICKET!!!!! RUN OUT!!! A terrible mix-up here. Washington Sundar sacrifices his wicket here. Yadav dabbed the ball and set off for the single. The non-striker was refusing but Surya kept running. He is disappointed to be dismissed in this fashion.

9:57 PM IST | Probuddha: DROPPEDDDD!!!!!!!! OH DEAR!!! A costly mistake here by Jacob Duffy. Suryakumar Yadav survives.

9:55 PM IST | Probuddha: It is Washi, who is looking more comfortable against spin here.

Shakir: We will certainly be happy that the Blackcaps didn't get to 120+. I believe we should be able to get there, but this certainly has not been a cakewalk in front of the Kiwi spinners!

Probuddha: The fact that no team has won a match on this venue while chasing is haunting me know. Thoughts??!!!! Shakir?

STATS CORNER: Ishan Kishan in his last 13 T20Is
99 runs at an average of 15.30 and 106.41 Strike Rate

Washington Sundar the man in form comes to the crease.

9:42 PM IST | Probuddha: WICKETTTTT!!!!!! Rahul Tripathi goes!!!! Straight into the hands of Glenn Phillips in the deep. Good length ball and Tripathi plays the slog sweep, it was a bit of a release shot but did not pay the dividends.

image-ldhktttq(Source: OneCricket)

Probuddha: 🤣🤣🤣🤣, that looks like a task from here on.

image-ldhkq96q(Source: OneCricket)

SKY walks in!!! The KING of T20 Format

Arijit: Definitely Prithvi Shaw should be handed an opportunity. Shubman Gill has been stellar in the ODI series but has failed to live up to the expectations in this format in recent times. It doesn't make Gill any below-par batter but Shaw needs to be experimented.

Ajay: 4 single-digit scores in the last 5 games for Shubman Gill. So can we see Prithvi Shaw in the next game in place of Gill?

9:30 PM IST | Probuddha: RUN OUT CHECK!!!! But it seems like Ishan Kishan has made his ground. OH!!! NO!!! The replays show that he was inches out of the crease. It will be an interesting decision. Let us wait for the decision on the big screen. OUT!!!!!! Ishan Kishan is run out and has to walk back to the hut.

Shakir: This was a disappointing pitch. I haven't seen the ball gripping in a T20 game especially under lights that significantly. No one likes a no contest. This was not a sporting pitch!!

Arijit: It would be interesting to see what Ish Sodhi can offer.

9:21 PM IST | Probuddha: FOUR!!!!! Poor ball by Phillips. Ishan Kishan capitalises on the opportunity. The 'Men in Blue' is gradually progressing towards levelling the series.

9:19 PM IST | Probuddha: 'John Cena' of New Zealand cricket is here with the ball. CAN YOU SEE ME!!!!! on the cards??

SCORE

IND- 29/1; Overs: 6

Ishan Kishan:11(20) Rahul Tripathi: 4(7)

9:17 PM IST | Probuddha: FOUR!!!! A release of pressure there for India. Good length ball on off stump, turning away from the batter. Ishan Kishan cuts it through the point region for four runs.

9:08 PM IST | Arijit: WICKET!! WICKET!! WICKET!! Shubman Gill tries to pull a half-tracker that spins inward sharply. He ends up getting a top edge to deep square leg. Rahul Tripathi is in.

Arijit: Definitely, 140 would have been a more formidable total. With the ball turning massively, scoring runs isn't that easy.

Probuddha: 140 would have been a winning total on this track.

Shakir: The way the ball is turning, what do you think Arijit and Probuddha? Could 140 have been a challenging total on this strip?

9:06 PM IST | Arijit: A stumping review has been taken by the onfield umpires. Replays show that the foot was stuck in the soil while the bails were clipped off.

Interesting Facts

Most times Teams Scored < 100 runs in T20Is

10 - Bangladesh
9 - New Zealand
8 - Pakistan
7 - Sri Lanka
7 - West Indies

9:03 PM IST | Arijit: Michael Bracewell conceded just a solitary run in the second over. Therefore spinner in the form of Santner has also been brought from the other end.

Ajay: As the target is not that big, so it's a good opportunity for Gill and Ishan to get some runs under their belt

Shakir: India should not have any problems to chase this down. I was surprised to see Duffy in the first over. The only chance that Blackcaps have is if they attack with spin...as much possible!!

8:58 PM IST | Arijit: A glance behind the square leg region and Shubman Gill brings up the first boundary of the innings.  8 runs off the first over.

8:53 PM IST | Probuddha: Indian openers out in the middle. A target of 100 runs to draw level in the series.

image-ldhjx5en(Source: OneCricket)

8:45 PM IST | Deepak: A brilliant display of bowling by the Pandya-led Indian side as they restricted the Black Caps under 100,💥 which is the lowest total for New Zealand against India. The decision to bat first backfired on the Black Caps.

New Zealand, who won the toss and decided to bat first, got off to a shaky start as they lost both their openers, Finn Allen and Devon Conway, early in the innings. The Indian spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar, Kuldeep and Deepak Hooda proved to be a formidable force for the Black Caps, extracting crucial wickets and putting pressure on the batsmen.

Glenn Phillips, who was next to the crease, was unable to settle in and was sent back to the pavilion after scoring just 5 runs off 10 balls. New Zealand was struggling at 60/5 in the 13th over, facing a daunting challenge from the Indian spin attack. Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner took the responsibility of scoring some runs in the middle and tried to steady the sinking ship, but their progress was halted as Michael Bracewell was dismissed for 14 runs off 22 balls.

Ish Sodhi and Lockie Ferguson were the next to fall, succumbing to the brilliance of Arshdeep Singh in the 18th over. Mitchell Santner, however, remained unbeaten on 20 runs, but the Black Caps failed to reach the 100-run mark and were restricted to a paltry total of 99 runs in 20 overs, which is the lowest total for the Black Caps against India.

On the bowling front, Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers for India, scalping a couple of wickets and conceding only 7 runs in 2 overs. Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Deepak Hooda, and Kuldeep Yadav each contributed one wicket to New Zealand’s downfall. Hardik Pandya also achieved a significant milestone in his cricketing career, completing his 150 wickets in international cricket.

Trivia: New Zealand registers their lowest ever total against India in T20Is

Shakir: The kiwis didn't turn up and the Indians have delivered in emphatic fashion in a must-win game. The spinners had the kiwis in tangle throughout the innings with a combined figures of 13 overs for 55 runs at the cost of 4 wickets!! The Kiwis have lost it here I believe...

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Team India for the extra ordinary performance in the Women's U-19 World Cup. We at OneCricket are proud of the efforts you have put out there.

image-ldhim4cd(Source: OneCricket)

Over 18.2: FOUR!!! A boundary after 28 deliveries.

Scored 3000+ Runs and taken 150 Wickets for India (Pace bowling all-rounder)

  1. Kapil Dev
  2. Manoj Prabhakar
  3. Hardik Pandya

8:30 PM IST | Probuddha: IN THE AIR ANDDD TAKEN!!!!!!! This is getting monotonous to type actually. The 8th wicket falls for New Zealand. The three figures is also lloking tough for the visitors. Second wicket for Arshdeep Singh.

8:27 PM IST | Probuddha: WICKET!!!!!!! AND HERE GOES THE SEVENTH ONE. Short ball at the body of the batter. Ish Sodhi looks to pull the ball and manages to top-edge it to the man at mid-on. India have totally ceased the momentum here.

Milestone Alert: Hardik Pandya completes 150 Wickets in International cricket!!

Shakir: This is a one-way traffic. India have dominated from the get go and the Kiwis just couldn't get going.

8:25 PM IST | Probuddha: Arshdeeep Singh is into the attack for the first time this night.

8:23 PM IST | Probuddha: A BRILLIANT EFFORT IN THE DEEP BY ARSHDEEEP SINGH!!!!!! AND ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST. Short ball by Hardik Pandya, Bracewell hooks the ball and it goes to the deep fine leg region. Arshdeeep was stationed there, he grabs the ball and throws it in the air while crossing the boundary and comes back to grab it againt. With that Hardik Pandya reahces 150 wickets in international cricket.

8:14 PM IST | Probuddha: I think India will be able to restrict New Zealand into something manageable. I believe 1-1 in the series is definitely on the cards.

Last five overs left in the first innings of the match!!!

image-ldhhsoac

Over 13.3: FOUR!!!!!! After a long time. A beautiful cover drive by the Kiwi Skipper there to get the boundary.

8:00 PM | Probuddha: RUN OUT!!!!!! What more could go wrong for the visitors. Chapman was trapped way out of the crease and Ishan Kishan dislodged the bails easily. So New Zealand lose half their side here.

7:58 PM IST | Probuddha: So 12 overs done and the Kiwis are strangled at 58 for 4. The run rate is below five runs per over and India is definitely controlling the proceedings here.

Shakir: The celebrations will continue but coming back to the IND vs NZ action, this looks like a Day-3,4 Test match Pitch. Ball turning square and the Kiwis looking clueless in front of the 4 spinners in the Indian side!!

Here is the winning moment from the Women's U19 T20 World Cup.

7:49 PM IST | Probuddha: GONE!!!!! Kuldeep Yadav at his best. Through the gates of Daryl Mitchell. Classic China-man display here by our very own 'KUL'. For now, Mitchell's stumps has been shattered by him.

Probuddha: India in the driver's seat. But we are well acquainted with New Zealand's never give up spirit.

Shakir: Half-way stage, the Kiwis are tottering. What do you think of the first half, Probs?

image-ldhgu5wt

7:45 PM IST | Probuddha: Indian spinners tying down the New Zealand wagon here.

Hardik Pandya is having a bit of conversation here with his players. A bit of a halt in the game, as Sundar is struggling with a bit of finger issue. He is taping them here right now.

Shakir: Coming back to the match, the Kiwis are looking baffled here. The ball is turning and the only answer that they seem to be having is the sweep shots that are becoming the reason of their downfall!!

Shakir: The U-19 Womens have created HISTORY or shall I say HERSTORY!! India the first T20 U-19 Women World Cup Champs!

AND TIWARI ENDS THINGS IN STYLE!!!!! India wins the final by seven wickets and with that the inaugural Women’s T20U-19 World Cup. These names will be written in golden letters in history. Great Great job by the girls!!!!!! and probably breaking the jinx of India with ICC Trophies.

7:33 PM IST | Probuddha: WICKET!!!!!!! One more bites the dust. Deepak Hooda this time disturbs the woodwork behind Glenn Phillips. India dominating the contest now. He was looking to reverse sweep but completely misses the line.

image-ldhgcwgb

SCORE

NZ- 33/2; Overs: 6
Mark Chapman:1(6) Glenn Phillips: 4(6)

This is huge for India!!! Conway on these kind of pitches is a big fish. Don't know if reverse sweep was the right option with the ball turning so much. India on top!!

India-WU19 just 19 runs away from getting their name in the history books

7:22 PM IST | Probuddha: Review Taken. The replay shows that the ball clipped the upper part of the gloves. I think that is Conway's time in the middle. Yes!!!!!!!! India strike again, the second wicket falls.

image-ldhgup13

Milestone Alert !Chahal becomes the leading wicket taker (91) for India in T20I history (Mens). He leaves behinds Bhuvneshwar Kumar (90) to achieve the feat!

7:19 PM IST | Probuddha: Extraordinary by YUZI. A wicket maiden in the powerplay.

image-ldhftb8u

7:15 PM IST | Probuddha: WICKET!!!!!!!! BYE BYE FINN ALLENN!!!!!! Reverse sweep out of the bag. But he failed to connect properly. The ball hit his bat and rolled on to the stumps. INDIA DRAW FIRST BLOOD!!!!!

Shakir: Chahal in powerplay??! Interesting move from Hardik. He generally does not take the ball in the powerplay. And there is some turn straight away and I will like to quote Danny here, "Good Luck Finn!!"

7:14 PM IST | Probuddha: Yuzi into the attack in the powerplays. This is very rare and it could be said that a daring bit of captaincy by Hardik. What do you think Shakir?

SCORE
NZ - 21/0
Overs: 3
Finn Allen: 11 (7)*
Devon Conway: 10 (11)*

Shakir: Here goes Allen, if you were wondering he was looking cautious. Both the boundaries were of the edges but his intent is clear. It will be an exciting contest.

Probuddha: OHHH!!!! Finn Allenn surviving at knife's edge. He is taking on the bowler and gets two boundaries. But lucky for Allen I would say!!!

Over 1.3: And some turn straight away for Washy! This surface looks similar to the one in Ranchi. Kul-Cha will be tweaking their fingers.

7:05 PM IST | Probuddha: Spinner in the second over. It is also turning quite a lot from the very beginning.

Shakir: And we are underway, Conway smashes it a boundary off Pandya. Finn Allen looking somewhat cautious....FOR NOW!

7:03 PM IST | Probuddha: Hardik Pandya has began the proceedngs for India and New Zealand have put on 6 runs in the first over.

Meanwhile, India-WU19 is in a bit of trouble losing two wickets for just 22 runs. They are still 47 runs away from the victory.

Fun Fact: Kul-Cha last featured in the same T20I for India back in July, 2018 vs England at Cardiff!

Shakir: Hardik will be taking the new ball and will have the opportunity to get to this milestone. Can he do it?

image-ldherczeCan Hardik get to this milestone?

Shakir: India Women on the verge of creating history!!❤️ The target of 69 should not be a challenge but you never know with cricket being the game of great uncertainity

New Zealand Playing XI : Finn Allen, Devon Conway (wk), Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Michael Bracewell, Daryl Mitchell, Ish Sodhi, Blair Tickner, Mitchell Santner (c), Lockie Ferguson, Jacob Duffy

India Playing XI : Ishan Kishan (wk), Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Surya Kumar Yadav (vc), Hardik Pandya (c), Deepak Hooda, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Shivam Mavi, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal

image-ldhf19d1Only one change for India. Chahal comes in place Umran

Stay tuned with us for the playing XI of the two teams.

Shakir: Ahh, definitely. This was on the cards. I was surprised with Yuzi sitting out of the first match on a rank turner. Let's see how this pitch goes. It is certainly going to assist the spinners in my opinion.

Meanwhile, India-WU19 has dismissed the English team for 68 runs in just 17.1 overs. So the 'Girls in Blue' need 69 runs to become the first champion of the Women's U-19 World Cup

Shakir: The pitch at Lucknow gets slow in the second half and as we saw in the first game, if dew doesn't become a huge factor then it is going to be challenging for the Indians to chase anything over 160

Probuddha: An added spinner, what is the thinking the behind it?

Shakir: Hello Guys, and welcome to the Live Blog for the second T20I between India and New Zealand. New Zealand will be setting up as they have elected to bat first. Just to let you all know, the chasing team is yet to win a fixture on this venue. This is going to be a good challenge for the Indian team with the series on the line!

6:30 PM IST | Probuddha: New Zealand have won the toss and have decided to bat first. How do you think the toss will play a part in this match? BTW, New Zealand have gone in with an unchanged eleven. India have rested the speedster Umran Malik and brought in Yuzvendra Chahal.

6:26 PM IST | Probuddha: Speaking of cricketing action, the India under-19 Women's team is paying the final of the Women's U19 World Cup and are in a commanding position. While bowling first in the match, India have got the English team reeling at 68 for 8 in 16.2 overs.

6:20 PM IST | Probuddha: The series stands 1-0 in favour of New Zealand and now the action shifts from Ranchi to Lucknow. The ground has favoured the team batting first. So far, five T20I matches have been played on this ground and all of them have been won by the team batting first. Here are the ground stats of T20I matches at the venue.

Numbers at the ground (Last five T20Is)

Matches won batting first: 5

Average score batting first: 172
Average score batting second: 126
Average runs per over: 7.45
