Billy Stanlake is excited about his upcoming stint with Hobart Hurricanes in Australia's premier T20 tournament Big Bash League, starting December 13.

Stanlake, who has had a tough time with injuries, opened up on his struggles in the last couple of years due to back-to-back setbacks.

Earlier, the 27-year-old was released from his Melbourne Stars contract to join the Hobart Hurricanes ahead of the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League.

Stanlake suffered two back stress fractures at 18 and 19, along with similar injuries in his pelvis and feet, among other medium-term injuries like a broken pinky finger and an infected toe.

Notably, he didn't play a single match for the Stars in the 2021 edition of the tournament after a stress fracture he sustained during his County Championship debut in 2021 kept him out of action.

If the tall pacer stays in a good position, he could be an asset to star-studded Hurricanes' who already have the likes of Nathan Ellis and Riley Meredith in their pace attack.

Speaking in cricket.com.au's Unplayable Podcast, the 28-year-old opened up on his new assignment with Hurricanes, which will see him working with the new head of strategy Ricky Ponting, who once declared Stanlake "one of the all-time great fast bowlers."

Here's what Stanlake said

"I'm looking forward to competing with 'Riz' (Riley Meredith) and getting the speed gun up there. I'm sure once I get out there I'll probably try to start bowling as fast as I can, I'm sure the competitive juices will hit me straight away,

"But the main point is to make sure I'm in good positions, I'm up tall, bowling fast, getting my bounce … and my stock ball is where it needs to be with a couple of my variations and yorkers."
