Pakistan defeated South Africa in Sydney by 33 runs as the ‘Men in Green’ reboot their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign with winning ways.

Earlier in the tournament, Babar Azam and co. suffered back-to-back last ball defeats to India and Zimbabwe in topsy-turvy final overs. However, they thumped Netherlands and South Africa with emphatic margins in their subsequent two fixtures, and now stand with an outside chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.

Speaking on Pakistan’s remarkable turnaround, star batter Shan Masood has said that the opening defeats were not easy to digest, but the team has responded well after those setbacks.

Pakistan will now face Bangladesh in a must-win game this Sunday, November 6. Apart from securing a favourable result against their Asian rivals, the Babar Azam-led side will also be hoping for the defeats of India and South Africa in their respective final group games, also scheduled to be played on the same day.

Shan Masood recently stated that his team will try its best to perform well against Bangladesh. He also talked about Pakistan’s mixed run this tournament and how they managed to shrug off their opening setbacks. He said:

“What’s important is what we have realised through some harsh lessons that we can only do what’s in our control. Losing two games (India and Zimbabwe) was not easy, but after that I think the team has responded well in doing whatever they can control, whatever we can control.

"So, we’re just going to control our performances. We’re going to control the first 20 overs first. And then once the break is done, we’ll analyse again and we will see where we are. Then we’ll try and control the next 20 overs. Whether it’s with the bat or ball, again, it’s not within our control.”
