New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson celebrated his return to form with an emphatic win over Ireland. The cricketer slammed a boundary-laden 61 from just 35 deliveries, and formed crucial stands with Devon Conway and Glenn Phillips in the middle.

The ace batter was also adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for his efforts, as New Zealand claim the top spot on the Group 1 points table in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Kane Williamson praises team effort after thumping win over Ireland

The New Zealand captain expressed his delight after huge win against Ireland to cap their group campaign this T20 World Cup 2022. On his own return to form, the cricketer credited his openers Finn Allen and Devon Conway for successfully negating the new-ball threat upfront.

Williamson arrived to the crease at the edge of the powerplay and punched out a calculated 61 until his dismissal in the penultimate over. After the match, he said:

“The guys were brilliant in negating the new ball and give us a good start. It was a very competitive total. The guys with the ball adjusted nicely, the spinners came in, and they did their job. Similar to building some partnerships and it was nice to get a bit of momentum. It was nice. Good team effort. Ireland have been playing beautifully and it is nice to get a win.”

As their group campaign comes to an end, New Zealand are pretty much guaranteed for a spot in the semi-finals. The runners-up from the previous edition will be looking to go one up this time around as collision course for the title race heats up.
