The New South Wales team has announced a thirteen member squad for the Sheffield Shield opener versus the Western Australia. The tournament will get underway at the WACA on Monday.

This season of the Sheffield Shield will be of utmost importance for all the players hoping to throw their name in the hat for consideration in the national side.

The Blues will be a depleted side due to the absence of their star players.  Aussie stars like Pat Cummins, David Warner, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will be unavailable due to their prior international commitments.

Dwarshuis in line to make his debut

One of the highlights of the squad named for the fixture is that left arm seamer Ben Dwarshuis might make his first class debut for NSW. The team will be led by Kurtis Patterson and will be bolstered by the inclusion of Australian international players Moises Henriques and Nathan Lyon.

Experienced batter Daniel Hughes is also a part of the side. Further the squad also features some of the brightest young talent in the Australian domestic circuit- batter Jason Sangha (who has been named as the vice captain) and all rounder Jack Edwards.

The Blues were knocked over for a pitiful 76 during a one day match on Saturday against the Warriors, and will be desperate to run things around in the four-day opener.
