The Melbourne Stars have re-signed young guns Tom O'Connell and Sam Elliott for the upcoming season of the Big Bash League (BBL). O'Connell has been associated with the Stars since 2018 and has risen through the ranks of Victorian cricket with his all-round performances.

He recently featured for the Stars Academy in the Top End T20 tournament in Darwin, which made it to the final of the competition. In his short eight-match BBL career, the leg-spinner has claimed five wickets since making his debut in the 2018-19 edition.

Elliot is an out-and-out fast bowler who made his BBL debut last season for the Stars. However, he went wicketless in both matches. The 23-year-old has appeared in 3 List-A for Victoria Second XI.

O'Connell on playing with the Stars

"It's great to re-sign with the Stars and continue to learn from the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Adam Zampa and Marcus Stoinis.  I'm really looking forward to the season ahead and, it's always good fun wearing the Stars uniform."

Elliott excited to play alongside Trent Boult

"After getting a taste of the BBL last season, I'm rapt to be back at the Stars for BBL|12. I'm looking forward to working with the coaches again and I can't wait to learn as much as I can from one of the best fast bowlers in the world in Trent Boult."

The Stars kick off their BBL 12 campaign against the Sydney Thunder on December 13.
