Ahead of a crucial and gruelling season, South Australian Redbacks' speedster Brendan Doggett has been ruled out at least for the initial period of the Marsh One-day cup and Sheffield Shield trophy with a hip flexor injury.

Former Queensland bowler had to deal with multiple back and leg injuries along with side strain in the previous season, which was also his inaugural season with this club.

The management is taking serious note of the occurrence and planning to move ahead with a cautious approach to properly manage the workload of the injury-prone bowler who managed 17 wickets last time.

However, with some significant clashes coming in the month of October, it is likely that he might not be visible on the field for a considerable amount of time.

What Redbacks' physiotherapist has to say on this

In his statement, side's physiotherapist Sam Offord gave some insight on the matter, in which he stated that they're hopeful of his return in October.

"He sustained a medium-grade hip flexor strain bowling at training. We'll try and progress him as quickly as we can, but he's likely to gradually build up his training load and then his bowling load over the next couple of weeks. We hope to see him back around mid-October."

Injury woes continue to haunt the club

Not just Doggett, but batter Thomas Kelly who suffered a stress fracture, might also miss, in addition to the pacer Wes Agar, out due to slight strain. Furthermore, Travis Head and Alex Carey will leave for national duties, which might present opportunities to these youngsters.

Their season begins on September 26 against Queensland in the Marsh One-day cup.
