County Championship 2022 | Division One Round-Up, September 6

The 2022 edition of County Championship Division One saw four matches being played simultaneously at Taunton, Canterbury, Manchester and Southampton. Here are the brief reports of the actions of all the matches played on September 6. 


Gloucestershire vs Somerset 

Starting the day on 320/6, Gloucestershire's tail could not last long and the team was dismissed for a score of 343.  For Somerset, Lewis Gregory scalped four wickets. 

In response, the home side lost their talented batters, Tom Lammonby and Tom Abell early. However, the experience of Imam Ul Haq came in handy for the team, as he stitched a 70-run partnership with George Bartlett (35). 


After the dismissal of Imam (90), the tail-enders did well to steer the team. Until the end of Day's play, Somerset are at 209/8, with wicket-keeper James Rew unbeaten on 35, while Sajid Khan at 12*.

Essex vs Kent

Essex started Day 2 on a score of 327/4, with Matt Critchley and Adam Rossington at the crease. After adding 39 runs in the morning session, Critchley (90) and Rossington (6) were dismissed in quick succession. 

However, Ben Allison (53) and Sam Cook (38) continued the team's strong momentum to post 573 on the board. Daniel Bell-Drummond was the pick of the bowlers for Kent with three scalps. 


Then, Jamie Porter took the wickets of Essex openers, Ollie Robinson and Ben Compton early. Soon, Cook got rid of the experienced Drummond (18) and Joe Denly (11) as well. At the end of Day's play, Jack Leaning (19*) and Jordan Cox (1*) are at the crease with Kent at 74/4.

Lancashire vs Yorkshire 

With less than five overs into Day 2, Lancashire lost their remaining two wickets to end their innings on 276. For Yorkshire, George Hill was the most successful bowler with six scalps. 


In response, Yorks batter Adam Lyth (13) fell to the Kiwi speedster Will Williams. It was a strong partnership of 63 runs between Finlay Bean (42) and Hill (32) which helped the team to progress well. 

At the end of Day 2, Yorkshire are at 130/4, with Tom Kohler Cadmore (24*) and skipper Jonathan Tattersall (14) at the crease.

Hampshire vs Northamptonshire 

Hampshire began Day 2 proceedings at 229/5. However, they were rocked by the dismissal of Liam Dawson (44) in the second over. The elegant batter Aneurin Donald fell shy of six runs of his fourth First-Class century. 

However, James Fuller (26) and Kyle Abbott (57*) was a great support to the team in declaring on 400/9. Ben Sanderson was the pick of the bowlers for Northants with three scalps. 


In response to a strong total, Northamptonshire got a stable start with Emilio Gay (31*) and Will Young (27). After the dismissal of Young by Abbott, team's leading run-scorer Luke Procter is at the crease with Emilio and they ended the day on 77/1.
