MO-W vs OI-W: Bates, Kapp inspires Invincibles to book a place in the Finals

Oval Invincibles (OI) handed a humbling loss of 32 runs to the Manchester Originals (MO) in Match 24 of the Women's Hundred Competition on Wednesday (August 31) at Old Trafford. 

In this pursuit, they topped the table and cemented their place in the Finals. Southern Brave and Trent Rockets will battle it out in the Eliminators to reach the last stage. 

Invincibles script history by posting highest-ever total 

Opting to bat first, Invincibles got off to a strong start with the in-form Lauren Winfield-Hill and skipper Suzie Bates. The duo added 62 runs in and around seven overs, before Hill made her way back to the hut for 25 off 20. 

Then, Alice Capsey kept the team's momentum intact by contributing 18 off 12, laced with three boundaries. On the other end, Bates was vivacious with her shot selections to keep the team ticking at an expensive rate. 

In the end, Bates (79* off 47) got a terrific support from Marizanne Kapp (36* off 22), which propelled the Invincibles to a total of 163, which is the highest-ever score in the Women's Hundred history. 

Proficient bowling unit help Invincibles dominate

In response to the chase, Originals could not get off to a good start due to the flurry of wickets, triggered by Sophie Smale and Kapp. However, the experienced Lizelle Lee displayed composure to stay at the crease and move the team's innings in good stead. 

After the dismissal of Lee (64 off 41), the likes of Ami Campbell and Eleanor Threlkeld stitched an unbeaten stand of 30 runs, and Originals finished on 131/6. 

Kapp and Smale scalped two wickets each for the Invincibles.
