The BCCI after announcing it's domestic schedule for the season 2022-23 has reserved a month in March 2023 to accommodate the inaugural Women's IPL.

The updated calendar

The Senior Women's season that usually begins in November has been advanced by a month, meaning the season will now commence in October 11, 2022 and will end in February next year. The first tournament of the season will be the T20 competition, whereas the last will be the inter-zonal one-day competition.

Women's IPL so far

What started as a trial-run in 2018 where a one-off match was held has turned into a three-team franchise competition with the inclusion of overseas players. Thrilled by the response of the competition, the BCCI has now decided to host a full fledged Women's IPL starting next season.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly on the matter

"We are at the level of formulation to have a full-fledged WIPL. It is certainly going to happen, I strongly believe that next year i.e. 2023 will be a very good time to start a full-fledged women's IPL which will be as big and grand a success as men's IPL."

What lies in the future?

The future of Women's IPL certainly looks brighter than usual with current men's franchises like The Knight Riders Group and and Rajasthan Royals publicly expressing their interest in owning teams in the Women's edition. Not to mention, the Indian Women's team has also thoroughly proved it's growing pool of talent after bagging a silver at the Commonwealth Games, leaving no room for critics to question the availability of players in the domestic sphere.
