Former South African pacer, Morne Morkel was appointed as the Indian team's bowling coach last month, and his first assignment, his bowlers made an instant impact, decimating the Bangladesh team inside 4 days of the Chennai Test.
Fast Bowler, Jasprit Bumrah picked up 5 wickets in the match, and Ravichandran Ashwin, who went wictetless in the first innings bagged a 6-fer in the second innings to seal the win for the Indian team. Others also chipped in with crucial wickets as India rattled Bangladesh batter on a lively surface.
Shaheen, Rauf Disrespected Morne Morkel
Before joining Indian coaching staff, Morkel was the bowling coach of the Pakistan team, however, the great pacer had a forgetful spell as the bowling unit lacked the cutting-edge under his guidance.
Former cricketer, Basit Ali, who is quite outspoken about Pakistan cricket, has lashed out at the team for disrespecting Morkel. He believes that the Pakistan bowling unit, including the likes of Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf considered themselves bigger than the game.
“The Pakistani bowlers consider themselves to be bigger than cricket. They thought that Morkel was nothing in front of us,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.
He further added that there is a gulf of difference between the mindset of India and Pakistan players, and the Pakistan side should learn a thing or two from their rivals.
“We got to know the difference. This is the same Bangladesh played against Pakistan, where it seemed as if Pakistan were completely on the back foot. This is the same Bangladesh that whitewashed Pakistan. The difference is of mindset, thinking, and class,” he added.
Pakistan have been woeful in 2024
Pakistan have been woeful in 2024 across formats. They started by losing the Test series against Australia, Down Under. Following which, the Pakistan team were humiliated in the T20 World Cup 2024, and bowed out in the group stage itself.
Their were high-hopes from the Test team against the visiting Bangladesh team, but the Tigers whitewashed the home side and won the series 2-0 to inflict a heavy defeat. Their next challenge will be up against the visiting England side.
Pakistan have already crashed out of the WTC finale race, and should give a chance to the youngsters to shine.
