Former England spinner Monty Panesar heaped massive praise on Ravichandran Ashwin, who shone in the first Test against Bangladesh. The off-spinner was the player of the match for his heroics with the bat and ball.

In the series opener Test, Ashwin scored a century in the first innings and registered a six-wicket haul in the second innings to help India seal a 280-run win over Bangladesh, their biggest win in terms of runs.

R Ashwin Scripts Plethora Of Records In Chennai

Ashwin shattered several records with his magical spell, equalling the great Shane Warne's feat of 37 fifers in Test cricket. Interstingly, Ashwin broke a 62-year-old record held by Vinoo Mankad to become the oldest Indian to take a five-wicket haul.

The 38-year-old, who debuted in 2011, has been India's frontline spinner for a long time and continues to shine bright at the age of 38. Meanwhile, Panesar, who played his last Test at 31 for England, took a dig at the Three Lions while praising Ashwin and the Indian team.

Panesar Slams England Cricket Board

Panesar stated that despite being in red-hot form, had Ashwin been playing for England, he would have been asked to retire by now.

"They experiment more. If Ashwin was English right now, then they would have told him to retire because they want to bring youngsters who have the potential to play. But I think England experiments more, and they like to experiment," Panesar told IANS.

Further, Panesar also talked about Nathan Lyon and rated the Australian spinner as a better bowler than Ashwin.

"I think I see Nathan Lyon in my opinion. Yes, he is a better bowler. But I think Ashwin is a better bowler in India. I think he thinks like a batter when he bowls. He is able to pick out the weakness and he can exploit it, and that is his biggest advantage. He bats really well when he bowls; he knows what the batters are thinking," Panesar added.

India will next face Bangladesh on September 27 at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
