After weeks of speculations, it is now confirmed that the BCCI has appointed South Africa seamer Morne Morkel as India's new bowling coach.

Morkel was associated with Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL as their bowling coach. He has worked with Gambhir at LSG where Gautam was the mentor during the first two years.

The news was confirmed by Cricbuzz as they stated that the information about Morkel's appointment has been passed on by BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

The former South Africa seamer will begin his stint as India's bowling coach from September 1 and the upcoming home series against Bangladesh will be his first assignment as India's bowling coach.

When the BCCI appointed Gautam Gambhir as their new head coach, he had demanded a few players as part of his coaching staff. However, reports suggested that the Roger Binny-led board was not convinced by Morkel and might look for other options.

Even for the recently concluded series against Sri Lanka, the board appointed Sairaj Bahutule as the interim bowling coach for the Men in Blue.

Talking about Morkel, besides working with LSG, his one of the earliest assignment as a bowling coach was with Pakistan, as he arrived in India for the 2023 World Cup as Pakistan's bowling coach.
