Raina during his knock of 44 [x]
Suresh Raina reminded fans of his IPL days as the attacking batter played an array of shots and hammered a quick-fire 44 off 27 deliveries in the Legends League Cricket 2024 match.
The Toyam Hyderabad captain, Raina was at his imperial best on Sunday as he took on Shikhar Dhawan's Gujarat Greats. The tournament provides a great platform for the retired players to keep up with their fitness and play the game of cricket in a more relaxed environment, as compared to an international game.
Raina came into bat when the team had lost 3 early wickets, and needed someone to solidify the innings. Batting first, the Hyderabad side lost the likes of Shaun Marsh, Chadwick Walton and George Worker, and Raina came to bat when the pressure was on the batting side.'
He started cautiously, but once he settled into the rhythm, the former India start went into the fifth gear and struck a couple of glorious boundaries. He struck John Mooney for two fours and a six in the 10th over, and quickly raced to 44 runs.
However, in a bid to reach his fifty quickly, Raina was dismissed by Manan Sharma. Raina's excellent innings included 5 fours and 2 sixes.
Raina's Hyderabad side lose their tournament opener
Courtesy of Rains and some late blitz from Peter Trego (36 off 25), the Hyderabad side were able to reach 172/7. Liam Plunkett was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/25 in 4 overs.
In reply, the Gujarat team made a mockery of the Hyderabad bowling attack, with opener Morne van Wyk smashing a sensational 115 off 69 deliveries and remained unbeaten as the team crossed the winning line with ease.
Captain Shikhar Dhawan also provided useful contribution as Gujarat won the game with relative ease.
