Babar Azam's Pakistan Out Of WTC Final Race? Scenarios Explained After Bangladesh's Historic Win

Led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh had a memorable day on the field, as they crushed Pakistan by six wickets in the second Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium to register a historic series win. The Tigers put up a commendable batting performance, chasing a modest 185-run target in 56 overs to etch their names in the history books.

Bangladesh's commanding win in Rawalpindi significantly modified the World Test Championship standings. While the Tigers climbed three spots up to number four, Pakistan maintained their eighth position, jeopardising their chances of featuring in the WTC 2025 final at Lord's.

Can Pakistan Still Qualify For WTC 2025 Final?

Pakistan's dream of playing the WTC 2025 final was almost shattered following their horrendous loss in the Rawalpindi Test against Bangladesh. While their arch-rivals India still claim the top position, Shan Masood's men totter at number eight with only two victories in seven outings. Their percentage of points (PCT) reads 19.05, which is better than only West Indies, placed at the bottom.

As their next WTC assignment, Pakistan will face England in a three-match Test series. However, given their losing streak at home, it will be daunting for Pakistan to secure a clean sweep over the Englishmen

Their journey in this WTC cycle will only become more challenging, as they will take on South Africa in a two-match Test series in their backyard before facing West Indies at home. Considering their poor form, it will be a miracle if they win their seven remaining matches and take their PCT to 59.52

As India and Australia already have a higher PCT, Pakistan will still depend on several results to go in their favour to enter the WTC final against all odds.
