Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been having a rough patch with the bat lately, as seen in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 for Mumbai Indians (MI), amassing 332 runs. However, former India player Sanjay Manjrekar believes that Sharma's batting in Test is almost faultless.

Sharma's form with the bat will be crucial for India, when they clash against Australia in the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final starting June 7. The Mumbai-born, who guided India to a 2-1 win series win over Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023, scored 232 in four matches, and has a terrific record against Australia, having slammed 650 runs.

Speaking to Star Sports, Manjrekar said that Sharma is finding the Test format the most exciting currently, and also gave insight into the opener's weakness as well.

Here's what Manjrekar said

“Keep his IPL form aside because he looked out of form in the last IPL as well but we saw the amazing batting he did in the first Test match against Australia. I believe the stage of his career Rohit Sharma is in, Test cricket seems to be the most exciting format for him just like it has always been for Virat Kohli.

His batting has become almost faultless in Test cricket at the moment. There is just one problem we have seen in Test matches - he gets out while playing the pull shot at times. They have bowled him a short ball and kept a fielder there. That is an instinctive shot,”

Interestingly, Sharma's only Test century away from home has come at The Oval, the venue for the much-anticipated WTC Final 2023.

The 36-year-old has scored 466 runs in England from six Tests at an impressive average of 42.36.
