In a significant development, there are reports that Jasprit Bumrah has opted out of the captaincy race for India's Test team. Notably, according to a report from Sky Sports Cricket, Bumrah was considered for the leadership role, but the right-arm seamer has turned down the offer.

The report clearly indicates that the BCCI considered Jasprit Bumrah to lead the team after Rohit Sharma's retirement, but now they have shifted their focus towards Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant for the leadership duties. It is worth noting that Gill is being considered for the captaincy role, while Rishabh Pant will be his deputy.

Workload Management Behind Bumrah's Decision

Notably, Sky Sports Cricket reported that the reason behind Bumrah's decision was his workload management. The report mentioned that Bumrah isn't looking to play all five Test matches in order to take no risk with his back, which he just recovered from. Thus, the right-arm seamer declined the offer to lead India in the traditional format of the match.

Bumrah made a similar mistake in Australia, where he played all five games and was ruled out of the series in the last match of the tour, which resulted in him missing the Champions Trophy for India.

Talking about India's tour of England, the squad is set to be announced in the coming few days and before that, the BCCI is set to introduce Shubman Gill as the next India captain via press conference. Further, the selectors are also expected to reveal Shubman Gill as the new deputy of India's Test team.
