IPL 2025 was suspended for a week on May 7 due to India-Pakistan tensions. As soon as the decision was made, foreign players from almost all teams decided to leave India. However, a report from PTI has now stated that Punjab Kings players, except Marco Jansen all have stayed back in India and it was their head coach who convinced players to stay committed and not leave the country.
Punjab Kings CEO also applauded Ricky Ponting for his efforts and added that he is the only person who is capable of doing such things.
“It shows Ponting’s character. Only he could have pulled that off,” Punjab Kings CEO Satish Menon told PTI referring to the commitment of Ricky Ponting towards the franchise and his job.
It was the Punjab Kings' game against Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala that was affected due to the conflict between India and Pakistan. The players were taken off the field and then were moved to Delhi through train from Jalandhar. They had the option of flying back home, but Ponting decided otherwise, and convinced his players, mostly Australians to stay back.
No Confirmation Over Availability Of Marco Jansen
Punjab Kings under head coach Ricky Ponting have played brilliant cricket in IPL 2025. They have 15 points from 11 matches with just three losses and were in a strong position in the game against DC before it stopped. The captain Shreyas Iyer has led from the front, and they look all set to qualify for the playoffs since their famous upsurge in IPL 2014.
It is not clear whether Marco Jansen, the only player who returned home would be back or not if the tournament resumes next week. It would be a big loss for Punjab, but they have seam-bowling all-rounders in their squad who can fit in for the South African in the remainder of IPL 2025.
