"There is none even close...": IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal on other T20 Leagues

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 finished on a high with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lifting their fifth title on Tuesday, beating 2022's champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad. In a nail-biting, and rain-curtailed final, which lasted for over two days, the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side prevailed over Hardik Pandya and Co. by five wickets via DLS method.

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal speaking after the completion of a successful season, said that India's premier T20 domestic league is the best in the world, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not view other T20 leagues as competition. 

The IPL is already challenged by Pakistan Super League, Big Bash League, and Caribbean Premier League for years, and now newer tournaments like International League T20 and SA20 have also made their debut this season. 

Here's what Dhumal said

"We don't see anyone else as our competition, there is none even close to IPL. Our best wishes to all the boards starting their own T20 leagues, but I don't think any of them can be a threat to IPL. It has been a phenomenal success, and largely because of the sheer competitiveness of this year's tournament. 

Most of the matches went down to the wire and there were plenty of last-over thrillers. We got a phenomenal response from the fans. Our viewership grew manifold and our broadcast and digital partners both are excited. Even the in-stadia experience of the fans has been phenomenal, and going forward it's only going to get better."

As quoted by Reuters, Dhumal confirmed that the number of matches in IPL could rise in the coming few seasons, and also that the salary cap for each franchise might increase following discussions with team owners.
