Cricket South Africa (CSA) have appointed Shukri Conrad as the new all-format coach of the South African men’s team. Conrad, named South Africa’s Test coach back in January 2023, will now be extending his duties in ODIs and T20Is as well.
He will be replacing Rob Walter, who tendered his resignation as South Africa’s white-ball coach last month. In a statement released by CSA, Conrad expressed his pride and excitement at taking over the expanded role for South African cricket.
Shukri Conrad becomes South Africa’s all-format coach
On Friday, May 9; CSA confirmed that Shukri Conrad will be taking over as South Africa’s all-format coach, replacing Rob Walter in white-ball duties. He will commence his white-ball charge for South Africa through the upcoming series against Zimbabwe.
As per CSA, the 58-year-old will be overseeing the South African men’s national team across all formats of the game till the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup at home.
It is worth noting that under the guidance of Shukri Conrad, the South African Test team reached the final of the 2023-25 WTC final. They are scheduled to face the Australian cricket team between June 11 and June 15 in Lord’s.
The Proteas reached the final by topping the WTC 2023-25 points table, winning eight of their 12 Tests at an expense of just three defeats. Moreover, South Africa won seven of those Tests in succession, which included 2-0 series wins over Sri Lanka and Pakistan at home.
A former cricketer himself, Conrad played nine first-class matches during his playing days.
