The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which was abruptly suspended due to rising security concerns following a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir- could resume later this year, potentially after India’s five-Test series in England concludes in early August.

The suspension was triggered by a series of disturbing developments in Jammu and Kashmir, culminating in a blackout and emergency evacuation of the stadium during the May 8 fixture between PBKS and DC in Dharamshala.

According to The Times of India, the BCCI is exploring alternate scheduling windows, including the one initially reserved for India’s men’s tour of Bangladesh and the 2025 Asia Cup.

When Can IPL 2025 Restart?

It is important to note that the England Test series is slated to begin on June 20 and will conclude with the fifth Test from July 31 to August 4.

According to reports by TOI, the IPL could be slotted for resumption immediately after this tour. Although India is scheduled to play three ODIs in Bangladesh from August 17 to 23, that tour was already under review due to diplomatic and logistical challenges making the window potentially viable for IPL’s remaining fixtures.

What's Next In IPL 2025?

While the BCCI has not officially confirmed a revised IPL schedule, internal discussions are reportedly focused on the August window. If the Bangladesh tour is scrapped or rescheduled, that period could provide a three-to-four-week block enough to wrap up the remaining matches.

Foreign players’ availability will be a deciding factor in rescheduling, especially with international commitments in the lead-up.

It is important to note that another window where the rest matches can take place is during September-November. The IPL has been previously held in during this time and as of now, India’s international calendar has a space in this month.

IPL 2025 Points Table Before Suspension

As of the last completed match, the Gujarat Titans (GT) led the points table with 16 points from 11 games and an impressive Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.793. RCB followed closely with 16 points from the same number of games but a lower NRR of +0.482. PBKS, also on 16 points but having played 12 matches, stood third with an NRR of +0.376.
