India and Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma congratulated opener Shubman Gill after the latter smashed an audacious hundred in Qualifier 2 to knock the five-time champions out of the competition.

Gill, who has been in amazing form this season, once again turn on beast mode on Friday evening as he slaughtered a toothless Mumbai Indians attack to all corners of the Narendra Modi Stadium.

In the process, the stylish opener not only became the 2nd Indian to cross the 800-mark in a season but also the only Indian cricketer to smash more than two 100s in a season after the legendary Virat Kohli.

Once Gill reached his hundred, he let out a guttural roar followed by his trademark celebration.

Despite being at the receiving end of the carnage, Sharma came up to Gill and congratulated his young opening partner for his magnificent knock.

Gill was eventually dismissed for a 60-ball 129, but by that time, he had already ensured that GT would post an insurmountable total, which they did.

After the match, Rohit acknowledged Gill's efforts while also hoping that his Indian opening partner continues his good form.

"Got to give credit to Shubman, he is in great form and I hope he continues that."

In 16 innings, Gill has racked up 851 runs at an average of 60.79 while striking at 156.43. He'll have one more chance of breaching the 973-run mark set by his idol, Virat Kohli in 2016, when he takes the strike against CSK in the final on May 28.
