Reigning champions Gujarat Titans (GT) lock horns with five-time title winners Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Hardik Pandya's GT and Rohit Sharma's MI won a game each in the two league meetings of the current campaign. However, before the game goes live, here is a look at the GT vs MI head-to-head record.

But before jumping into the head-to-head record of the two teams let us see how these two sides have performed in IPL 2023.

GT in IPL 2023

Like last year, the Titans finished the league phase with ten victories and four defeats out of the 14 games. With 20 points, the defending champions topped the table yet again. However, they suffered a defeat at the hands of four-time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Qualifier 1.

The Titans came second best against CSK in the crucial Qualifier 1 clash at Chennai, where they lost the encounter by a margin of 15 runs.

GT captain, Hardik won the toss and elected to field first. Openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway struck 60 and 40 runs respectively. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja played a cameo of 22 off 16 as the Super Kings managed to reach a total of 172/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Seamers Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma picked up two wickets each for the Titans.

In reply, Shubman Gill continued his purple patch, scoring 42 off 38. But the rest of the batting line-up failed to support Gill as the Titans never looked like they were in the run-chase. Rashid Khan played a good hand of 30 off 16, but it wasn't enough, as GT got bundled out for 157 on the final delivery of the match. Deepak Chahar, Matheesha Pathirana, Maheesh Theekshana and Jadeja all snared two scalps each for the Yellow Army. For his crucial half-century at the top of the order, Gaikwad won the Player of the Match award.

MI in IPL 2023

After an indifferent start to the season, MI still managed to reach the Playoffs. They ended the league stage with eight wins and six losses in 14 games. With 16 points, they secured the fourth position in the table. Notably, Rohit and his men beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to progress to Qualifier 2 in the eliminator tie.

The other players chipped in with helpful contributions as MI posted a competitive total of 182/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Pacers Naveen-ul-Haq and Yash Thakur snared 4 and 3 scalps for the Super Giants, respectively.

Chasing 183, LSG's batting failed miserably, with all-rounder Marcus Stoinis top-scoring with an innings 40 off 27. Madhwal ran through their batting order as he picked up five wickets for just five runs in his 3.3 overs spell. With this, he registered the best bowling performance in the Playoffs in the league's history. LSG got bowled out cheaply for just 101 in 16.3 overs. For his splendid spell, Madhwal grabbed the Player of the Match award.
