Rohit Sharma recently announced his retirement from Test cricket and the decision came in as a shocker for his fans and experts. However, with Indian fans getting saddened due to his outgoing, another new development came up that another senior player, Virat Kohli wrote an email to BCCI, stating his wish to retire from Tests.
Interestingly, the selectors and the team management want the experienced Kohli in the squad since without him and Rohit, there won't be much experience left in the team. As a result, a highly influential figure in the Indian cricketing spectrum has reportedly been asked to intervene in the matter.
Who could that individual be? Here are 3 India legends who have the power and conviction to urge Kohli to reverse his retirement call.
1) MS Dhoni
It was under the leadership of MS Dhoni that Virat Kohli made his international debut. MSD was the onw who trusted Kohli's skills when the selectors wanted S Badrinath to be in the squad. Plus, in 2011, after string of failures in Test cricket, experts wanted the India great to never play in Tests, but MSD was the one who gave him one more chance and the rest, as they say, is history.
Even after 'Thala's' retirement, he, and Kohli share a great bond and the former India captain could be the one to convince Kohli to reverse his retirement call.
2) Sachin Tendulkar
The God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar was the reason why Kohli decided to become a cricketer at first. Tendulkar is his childhood idol and Kohli dreamt of playing alongside him, a dream which he eventually fulfilled.
During the 2023 World Cup, Kohli surpassed his idol to become the player with most ODI tons, and even after a decade of Tendulkar retirement, the bond and relation remains the same. Hence, could the God be the one to help Kophli think about his decision?.
3) Ravi Shastri
Kohli has played and worked under different coaches since his debut, but the former India all-rounder, Ravi Shastri had the most influence on his career. The duo shared the same ideas when it came to captaincy and the Shastri-Kohli duo became famous for their never say die attitude.
Shastri's coaching contract with India ended in 2021, but even after that, he has spoken in high regards for Kohli and could be the one to convince the Indian star to think about his decision.
