Just days after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was suspended due to a military conflict between India and Pakistan, the good news is that BCCI has started working toward resuming the tournament.
The conflict forced the suspension of matches amid growing security concerns and due to this number of overseas players had to exit India and return to their home countries. However, with the announcement of a ceasefire between the two nations the situation has reportedly stabilised.
According to ESPNCricinfo, the BCCI and all the franchises have now initiated the process of recalling their overseas players, after final clearance from the Indian government. If all goes as planned, the league could restart as early as May 15.
Overseas Players Being Recalled After Ceasefire
According to same report by ESPNCricinfo, franchises have begun direct communication with foreign players to arrange for their prompt return. For some teams, a significant number of players had already been prevented from leaving India when the ceasefire was reached.
However, Gujarat Titans, saw two of their overseas players Jos Buttler and Gerald Coetzee leaving the squad. Efforts are now underway to ensure both players return swiftly. The logistical efforts are well-coordinated, but recalling overseas players remains a top challenge across for all franchises.
IPL 2025 Resumption Plan
Twelve league stage matches and four playoff matches are yet to be played. According to the original schedule Ahmedabad is set to host three remaining matches, Lucknow and Bengaluru will host two matches each.
Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Jaipur each have one match left. With Hyderabad and Kolkata are scheduled to host the playoff matches. And the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata is expected to host the IPL 2025 final as off now.
It remains unclear whether the abandoned match between PBKS and DC in Dharamsala will be resumed from where it was left or will it be replayed entirely. A decision on that front is expected soon, likely in coordination with BCCI’s finalised restart schedule.
With preparations now in full swing and overseas players being contacted for their return, the IPL 2025 is on track to resume within the next few days.
